A Board Devoid of Ethical or Humane Worth but Rich in the Financial Kind
Who are the people on the Board of the World Economic Forum
i can’t remember what took me onto the World Economic’s Board page. Aside from Schwab, i recognised only one of the names on the list - Larry Fink, the others I had no clue about. So i decided to find out a little bit about them. Here’s just a little insight.
I’d like to ask them how they are contributing to the achievement of the World Economic Forum’s misson of, “improving the state of the world’.
Mukesh D Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries.
“Mukesh Ambani chairs and runs $74 billion (revenue) Reliance Industries, which has interests in petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecom and retail.” Forbes. Ambani us a chemical engineer and is allegedly ‘worth’ in financial terms, $87.2bn.
Reliance Industries is 50% owned by investment firms.
Marc Benioff, Chair and Co-Chief Executive Officer, Salesforce
He’s an American ‘internet entrepreneur’, and “pioneer of cloud computing”, who is worth $7.2bn.
Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, World Economic Forum
The former CEO of Nestle Group is worth a poultry $19M. Nestle is under the control of investment firms, predominantly Vanguard.
Thomas Buberl, Chief Executive Officer, AXA
A history in financial services and consulting, Buberl’s salary at AXA is $2.66M. He is currently on the Boards of Intl Business Machines Corp (IBM to you and i - owned by Vanguard, BlackRock, StateStreet and co), XL Group Ltd (a subsidiary of AXA SA), Mony Life Insurance Co America (operates under protective.com), AXA Equitable Life Insurance, and AXA SA.
AXA’s top mutual fund holder is Vanguard.
Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance, United Nations
Finance Advisor to the British Prime Minister, Vice Chair and Head of Transition Investing, at Brookfield Asset Management which is based in Canada, Board member of Stripe, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and is Chair of Chatham House’s Panel of Senior Advisers. He is also Vice Chair and Head of Transition Investing and was the former Governer of the Bank of England.
He is estimated to be worth, in financial terms, $5M.
Laurence D Fink, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BlackRock
His net financial worth is more than 1 with nine zeroes after it. His firm manages over $10tn of ‘assets’. So of course he is on the Board of the World Economic Forum.
Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada
Member of the Liberal Party of Canada. She’s an ex-journalist and said to be financially worth $5M.
Orit Gadiesh, Chairman, Bain & Company
Bain and Company is a management consulting firm, with a revenue of $5.8bn. She is 71, an Israeli-American, with forty years of global experience in her field and an estimated financial net worth of $1-5M.
Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director, International Monetary Fund (IMF)
A Bulgarian economist, she went to Harvard Business School, and was CEO of the World Bank from January 2017 to September 2019. She is estimated to be financially worth $3M.
Fabiola Gianotti, Director-General, European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)
An Italian phycisist, part of the Higgs Boson discovery. Her salary is $700k.
Al Gore, Vice-President of the United States (1993-2001); Chairman and Co-Founder, Generation Investment Management LLP
No info needed. His financial worth is $300M.
Andre Hoffmann, Chairman, Massellaz
Owner of Massellaz SA, ‘a research and advisory company’, of which there is very little information. He has previously worked for Nestle UK and is currently a non-executive Vice Chairman of Roche Holding Ltd and is also a board member of the Amazentis SA (life sciences), Genentech Inc. (biotech and subsidiary of Roche), Inovalon, Inc. (cloud-based tools for healthcare), and SYSTEMIQ Ltd (a systems change company).
His estimated financial worth is $5.71bn.
Paula Ingabire, Minister of Information Communication Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Information Communication Technology and Innovation of Rwanda.
She is a technology enthusiast and politician. Her financial worth is estimated to be $1.5M.
Joe Kaeser, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Siemens Energy
Allegedly financially worth $75M, Joe also appears on the Boards of Allianz Deutschland, JP Morgan Chase, Daimler AG, and NXP Semiconductors.
Christine Lagarde, President, European Central Bank
Another poitician, and she’s a lawyer. She was also the Chair and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund for eight years from 2011. Her net worth in financial terms is $6M.
Yo-Yo Ma, Cellist
Weird. Not him. Just that he’s on the Board.
Peter Maurer, President, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
A Swiss diplomat, he has served as the President of the ICRC since July 2012. He is said to be worth, in financial terms, $5.5M.
Luis Alberto Moreno, Managing Director, Allen & Company
He is the former Minister of Economic Development in Colombia, for the Conservative Party. Allen & Co LLC is a private investment bank. You can find out more about Allen & Co on their Wiki page…insightful.

Patrice Motsepe, Founder and Executive Chairman, African Rainbow Minerals
A South African Mining billionaire with a financial net worth of $2.7bn.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General, World Trade Organization (WTO)
She is a Nigerian-American economist, who studied at Harvard. Her net worth is $1.5M.
H.M. Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Queen of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Office of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah
Popped out of a privileged vagina and through the wonders of nepotism and lineage earned the title of ‘Queen’. Her financial worth is said to be $35M.
L. Rafael Reif, President, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
An academic. Financial worth is unclear, $1 - 5M.
David M. Rubenstein, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman, Carlyle
Another white American ‘billionaire’. Another private equity firm. Estimated financial worth is $3.9bn.
Mark Schneider, Chief Executive Officer, Nestlé.
Another appearance for Nestle. This time a German-American businessman. His salary is $7.3M.
Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum
Economist. Writer of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and The Great Reset. He has worked for The Daily Mail Group, Bilderberg Group, Vontobel Holding, and The Swatch Group.
His father was the director of an industrial company called Escher Wyss & Cie, “During WWII, the company was a supplier for the German war effort, manufacturing turbines for Norsk Hydro,[2] and supplying flamethrowers.[3] Additionally, the company was an integral part of researching and developing turbines to produce heavy water for the creation of nuclear weapons for the Nazis.” (Wikipedia)
He is said to be financially worth just $1M.
Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister, Government of Singapore
Another politician on the Board. And another economist on the Board. He is said to be financially worth $75M.
Jim Hagemann Snabe, Chairman, Siemens
A Danish businessman, said to be financially worth $7M.
Julie Sweet, Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Accenture
Another rare female on the list. But a not so rare, business type and attorney. Apparently she’s a ‘powerful’ woman…ooohhh. Accenture is owned by investment firms…predominantly Vanguard and BlackRock. Her financial worth is $37M.
Feike Sybesma, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Royal Philips
Moving on to Holland, and a Dutch businessman. Royal Philips, or Philips, or Koninklijke Philips N.V, is owned by investment firms, predominantly Vanguard and BlackRock. He is also a non-exec Director for Unilever, also owned by the Vanguard and BlackRocks…
He is financially worth $1.5M.
Heizo Takenaka, Professor Emeritus, Keio University
Time for another politician and another economist. They’re ten a penny on this Board. Yawn. Heizo was the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan for a year from ‘05 to ‘06. He has an estimated financial worth $1.5M.
Zhu Min, Chairman, National Institute of Financial Research
Finally China get a presence. But yet one more economist, because you just can’t have enough economists on a board that wants to improve the state of the world. He is deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, and has held senior positions at the Bank of China from 2003 to 2009 and was a deputy governor of the People's Bank of China from 2009 to 2010.
His net financial worth is $1.5M.
I’d also like to point out that Harvard University consistently showed up in my searches of these people.
So there you have a little insight into the people who are selflessly serving on the Board of the World Economic Forum.
